Calgary’s National Music Centre is putting on a very special event this Saturday, September 26th to raise money for the continued construction of ‘Studio Bell’ – the new East Village home for the NMC. This incredible space is part of a 10 year, $12 million project between the NMC and Bell. Once completed it will be a 22,000 square foot hub for all things music – hosting unique events, displaying artifacts from Canada’s musical history, and providing a home for recording studios and performance spaces.
Out Loud is the annual fundraiser which was created to raise money for the initiative as well as provide music lovers from Calgary and across Canada with a spectacular evening of live performance, art, food and culture. This years event features Canadian songstress Serena Ryder (“Stompa”) as the main headliner and promises diverse and exciting programming throughout the entire evening.
The theme is ‘Rock Star Hotel’ and as such the centre has been divided into various themed events so that attendees can be delighted with a wide array of musical and artistic treats. In addition to Ms. Ryder who will be performing on the disco ‘main stage’, there will be an Off Broadway coffee house where guests can hear spoken word performances, a Brooklyn themed roof-top Hip Hop party, a take on an East Coast kitchen party with live bands and more.
If art and live music aren’t enough to draw you in, there will also be delicious coffee and eats courtesy of Calgary favourites charbar, Phil & Sebastian and Sidewalk Citizen. Additional music performers include Mitchmatic, Toner, Staggered Pints, Egor Ukolof and The Command Sisters.
Out Loud promises to be a once in a lifetime event where music lovers can explore, play, dance, party, eat, drink and of course, provide support to an initiative that is poised to become a gem in Canada’s musical landscape. Plus the rock and means you can bust out your little black dress and a motorcyle jacket – truly anything goes!
