Sondheim lovers rejoice – this is the year for you! There’s already been tons of attention to Sondheim on the West End, in New York City and in Toronto – plus 2014 will end with the much anticipated big screen adaptation of Into the Woods.
Until then, musical theatre companies in Toronto are doing lots of fantastic work to bring Sondheim to our stages. This month Tarragon Theatre is tackling a ‘non-Sondheim Sondheim’ with MARRY ME A LITTLE. The show was conceived in 1980 by Craig Lucas and Norman Rene and takes songs from his lesser known shows as well as ‘rejects’ that didn’t make the final cut of many of his hits and strings them together to tell a story.
Directed by admitted Sondheim fanatic Adam Brazier, the show stars Adrian Marchuk and Elodie Gillett with musical direction by Shaw Festival’s Paul Sportelli. It opened last week, and I’m thrilled to have a pair of tickets to giveaway to one lucky reader. Need a bit of extra incentive? The show features the Canadian premiere of the brand new song RAINBOWS which was penned for the Into the Woods film.
The lucky winner will receive a pair of tickets to the 8pm show on Wednesday March 12th and will be notified Tuesday via DM.
