Musical theatre lovers rejoice – in May Ryerson will host an incredible evening to pay tribute to legendary stage star Colm Wilkinson. Wilkinson is known around the world for originating the role of Jean Valjean in the hit musical Les Miserables, as well as playing the original Canadian Phantom in The Phantom of the Opera. His career spans decades, continents and genres and he has inspired younger generations to follow in his footsteps (most recently Ramin Karimloo, who is making his Broadway debut this month in the role made famous by Colm).
Wilkinson is known not only for his gorgeous voice, but also for his kind and generous personality. He lights up a room, is always happy to chat with fans or musical theatre students and is keen on giving back (often lending his voice to various charity events). He even has a scholarship in his name at Ryerson to benefit Theatre School students.
On May 11th, Ryerson students will come together with some of the best musical theatre talent Canada has to offer to pay tribute to Colm in a one night only concert titled “Music of the Night: A Musical Tribute to the career of Colm Wilkinson”. The event will take place at Koerner Hall at 7PM and feature Broadway stars Adam Brazier, Chilina Kennedy, Aaron Walpole, Tony nominee Josh Young and more.
I’m thrilled to announce a special social media initiative designed to engage discussion on Colm’s legendary career as well as help two lucky people attend the gala event. Follow @tributetoColm on twitter and participate in ‘Trivia Tuesdays’ for your chance to win. You can also check them out on Facebook
Tickets to the event are on sale now and more details can be found on the Ryerson website here: http://performance.rcmusic.ca/event/music-night-bra-musical-tribute-colm-wilkinson
