It’s an exciting week for spreading the Canuck musical theatre love! Yesterday I announced that NYC would be treated to our first class talent with a special evening called ‘Blame Canada!’ at 54 Below on March 17th, and now I’m thrilled to say that Toronto will get its own evening of Canadian musical theatre celebration on March 24th at Hugh’s Room.
Also called Blame Canada!, the Toronto performance will celebrate the launch of the Canadian Musical Theatre Writers Collective (CMTWC) and showcase some of Toronto’s best and brightest performing works penned by Canucks. The CMTWC was founded by Landon Braverman and Joseph Trefler, and is devoted to supporting and promoting the work of Canadian musical theatre writers at home and abroad.
The list of talent confirmed to be lending their voices to the event already stellar – and it’s only just started! There will be more names joining Thom Allison (Elegies: A Song Cycle), Gabi Epstein (Stars of David), Lisa Horner (Les Misérables), Andrew Love (Les Misérables), Jeff Madden (Jersey Boys), Julie Martel (The Sound of Music), Charlotte Moore (The Wizard of Oz), and Mark Uhre (Les Misérables). Joining them are the newly announced Chilina Kennedy(Jesus Christ Superstar), Joel Gomez (Elegies), Steffi D (Spring Awakening), Katie Kerr (Anne of Green Gables), Jenny Weisz (Annie), Dana Jean Phoenix (The Musical of Musicals), and David Cotton (Evangeline), with Alicia Toner, Susan Henley, Nicole-Joy Fraser, Laurie Murdoch, Andrew Mcallister, and Matt Campbell. Music direction is by Bob Foster (Rock Of Ages, Evangeline).
As in NYC, the evening will feature work by writers such as Bartram and Hill, Ted Dykstra and Leslie Arden.
